Our grape varieties include <\/span>Gamay, Chardonnay, Aligot\u00e9, and Pinot Noir<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

We produce wines under several appellations, in both red and white: <\/span>Chiroubles, Beaujolais-Villages, Bourgogne, Mercurey Village, Mercurey Premier Cru, and Cr\u00e9mant<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Our Bourgogne, Mercurey, and Mercurey Premier Cru<\/b><\/span> appellations are grown on clay-limestone soils<\/b><\/span>, characteristic of the great wines of Burgundy.<\/p>\n

Our Gamay<\/b><\/span> vines are located in the Beaujolais crus<\/b><\/span>, on the terroirs of Chiroubles and Villi\u00e9-Morgon<\/b><\/span>. The granitic soils<\/b><\/span> of these plots are typical of the great Beaujolais appellations.<\/p>\n

Geographic Location<\/b><\/h2>\n

Located in the heart of the C\u00f4te Chalonnaise<\/b><\/span>, just a few kilometers from Mercurey<\/b><\/span> (25 km south of Beaune), our winery can be found in the center of Rully<\/b><\/span>.<\/p>\n

Our vineyard estate stretches from Villi\u00e9-Morgon to Mercurey<\/b><\/span>.<\/p>\n

Telling the story of Domaine de Cardon<\/b><\/span> means speaking not only about a wine estate, but above all about the family<\/b><\/span> behind its creation. Domaine de Cardon is, first and foremost, a family story<\/b><\/span>.<\/p>\n

\n

Spanish Origins<\/b><\/h2>\n

Established in Dracy-le-Fort<\/b><\/span> for several generations, the De Cardon de Sandrans<\/b><\/span> family traces its origins back to 12th-century Spain<\/b><\/span>, under the name Cardona<\/b><\/span>.<\/p>\n

In the 15th century, during military campaigns led by the King of Spain in Italy (Lucca), Folch Cardona<\/b><\/span> married a descendant of the Strozzi family<\/b><\/span> of Lucca. This union produced several sons, two of whom\u2014Horace and Folch<\/b><\/span>\u2014later moved to Lyon, France<\/b><\/span>. Having actively participated in the defense of Lyon against the Reformation, King Henry IV<\/b><\/span> granted them the Barony of Sandrans<\/b><\/span>, in the Ain region (La Dombes).<\/p>\n

The Family Settles Near Lyon<\/b><\/h2>\n

Deeply rooted in the Lyon region, the De Cardon de Sandrans<\/b><\/span> family acquired, among other properties, the Domaine de Roche Cardon<\/b><\/span> on the outskirts of Lyon. In the 19th century, the family moved from the Ch\u00e2teau de Sandrans<\/b><\/span> to their estate in Dracy-le-Fort<\/b><\/span>, Burgundy.<\/p>\n

The first vines were planted there and cultivated\u2014on a modest scale\u2014until the mid-20th century, when the property was divided and the vineyards were uprooted.<\/p>\n

In 2012<\/b><\/span>, their descendant Fr\u00e9d\u00e9rique de Cardon de Sandrans<\/b><\/span> decided to revive the family\u2019s tradition and values by re-establishing a wine estate.<\/p>\n

Surrounded by passionate friends who shared the same values, Domaine de Cardon<\/b><\/span> was founded in April 2013<\/b><\/span>. After purchasing a winery in Rully<\/b><\/span> at the end of 2015, the estate produced its first vintage in 2016<\/b><\/span>.<\/p>\n
